Want to stay in Ibiza all summer???? Then why not work there for summer, how, doing what??  Read on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DIFFERENT TYPES OF JOBS AVAILABLE

  • PR work for the bars and clubs. Public relations work for the clubs and bars is a very important means of advertising the coming nights out. You will need stamina for this job and a lot of perseverance!!!

  • Waiting tables and working in bars is probably the most popular. Millions of tourists are expected and the huge number of restaurants, bars, cafés and nightclubs ensure a very high turn over of staff in this industry. Unless you apply to a Hotel Chain or know of somebody with a bar or restaurant, it is very difficult to apply for this sort of job before the summer has started!!!!
  • Sports and the beach. There are a number of surf and sailing schools on the island, as well as Diving centres, Water-skiing and Jet-skiing. You will need to be qualified to work here though!!!
  • Hotel Reception.  Many of the smaller hotels, apartments and clubs will take people on in the early summer months of May and June.  The appropriate qualifications or experience are preferred and usually a bit of language skill!

WHEN DO I APPLY???

  • PR for the discos and clubs. The party season starts at the beginning of June. make sure you are here at this time. Go to each of the clubs and bars and ask them personally. You should be outgoing, young.
  • Waiting tables and working in bars. Most bars and restaurants start hiring at the beginning of the summer (early May to early June). Our advice is to fly out to Ibiza at the end of april with a bit of money for the first few weeks, and to go around the establishments asking for work.  Keep asking around. Again, like in most countries, if you look hard enough there are almost always jobs to be found.
  • Sports and the beach. A bit trickier to find work in these areas. You should be out here at the end of April, beginning of May, and be prepared to ask around.   Have a look on my maps to find out which resorts and hotels are near a beach, and phone them up.
  • Hotel Reception. Once again it is quite difficult to find work as a hotel receptionist. Many of the larger hotels have their own reception staff who come again year after year. Our advice is to phone them up in March and April, to ask if there are any vacant positions.  You might also like to fly to Ibiza in May and ask the hotels face-to-face.

WHAT DO I NEED???

  • Languages. With so many tourists here on the island, it is possible to find work without speaking a word of Spanish!  It might be helpful if you know a few phrases though, although I never met many people who did!!
  • Personal qualities. Work here is very hard!! A six day week is not unusual!!  Many bar staff have to work 7 evenings a week. Accommodation is often cramped and home comforts sre few and far between!!

Remember though, the sun is shining, everyone is here to have fun, so the atmosphere is amazing, the beach is just around the corner, and you will probably have free tickets for most of the clubs!!!
  • Skills and Qualifications.  Experience is  preferred for bar and restaurant work.

PAY AND BENEFITS

The average summer wage is probably between 130.000 Pesetas and 160.000 Pesetas per month.

The benefits of working in Ibiza can be excellent:

  • Most employers will provide accommodation.
  • Free passes for clubs are easy to come by if you work here.
  • The quality of life here can not be bettered in Europe. There is also an amazing atmosphere on the island!!!!!!

WHAT SHOULD I MAKE SURE OFF???

It is important to have a work contract, which in turn ensures you have a medical insurance.

If the contract lasts for longer than 3 months, you are obliged to have a
'Residencia' - a permit to live and work here. Most employers will arrange this for you.

NB: Make sure u have a permit for doing PR is it is illegal not too!!!!!!!!
